Is tree topping healthy for trees?
The quick answer is no. Whether someone calls it “topping,” “heading,” “tipping,” or “dehorning,” cutting large amounts of a tree’s crown is improper pruning and it is never the right thing to do for a healthy tree.
Should tree cuts or wounds be treated or painted?
In the past, this was part of the standard recommendation, apply a liberal coat of tree wound dressing to any fresh cuts. Recently though, research has shown that this actually works against nature. When a cut is made properly, a healthy tree will heal by itself. Let nature take its course.
Why should I have my trees pruned?
Tree pruning will:
• Preserve and encourage good branch structure
• Correct poor branch structure
• Reduce potential hazards
• Give the arborist the opportunity to examine the tree more closely than from the ground
• Improve the overall health of the tree by removing dead, diseased, and dying branches
• Most trees can be pruned at any time of the year. However, there are some exceptions, like fruit trees, flowering, and ornamental trees.
Do I need a permit to remove my tree?
Not always, but for many trees, the answer is “yes.” You can contact your municipality (city or county) to obtain their list of protected trees and size limits. Evergreen Tree Service can help you obtain the required permits when needed.
Is My Laurel Oak Healthy?
Laurel Oaks are susceptible to many issues but the most common is old age. According to the University of Florida extension service Laurel Oaks have a lifespan of 50-70 years. Many of the Laurels here in the bay area are approaching that age and are beginning to rot. Once they rot on the inside, they become a hazard to the surrounding area. If you suspect your Laurel Oak may have problems, give us a call and we can assess it for you.
Is it important for my Tree Service provider to be insured?
Absolutely, if your tree company is uninsured and damages your neighbor’s property, you can be held responsible. Also, if he does not have workers comp and he brings helpers on your property and they get hurt, they can sue you as well. Make sure that whoever you hire is covered and they should be able to show you proof.
